Known as the “Cradle of Humanity”, the World Capital of Prehistoric Art, the Perigord region is more than ever the destination for sports and relaxation. As the first French department for domestic tourism, the Perigord region was successful in protecting its exceptional natural surroundings.
The Vezere and Dordogne rivers are among the most scenic in Europe and contribute greatly to the popularity of the Perigord country as a canoe paradise.
An exemplary partnership between the French Federation of Canoe Kayak and the Regional Council of the Dordogne Department has led to the co-organization of two international events bound to make of canoeing a spreading activity :
• In 2004, the first round of the World Canoe Kayak Marathon Cup.
• In 2006, also on the Tremolat site, the World Canoe Kayak Marathon Championship.
